On the song "Dick Clark (Ballad of the German Art Students)," the Madison pop-rock band tells the sad (and probably apocryphal) tale of the time the group tried to get the "American Bandstand" leader to listen to its demo tape, only to be rejected outright. "We have no need for nimble-witted New Wave pop," Dick's outgoing message says.
Perhaps America's "oldest teenager" isn't buying, but the rest of us have a positive hunger for the stuff, especially when it's done as beautifully and adorably and cleverly as the German Art Students do it. Following their wonderful "Kissing by the Superconductor" is the just-about-as-wonderful "Name-Droppers," ...
