May 12--GOLIAD -- Oil and gas drillers are paying their way on Goliad County roads, agreeing up front to fix roads that might be damaged when overweight loads are brought in to drill wells and set production equipment.
Drilling activity in Goliad has increased over the past year, and county commissioners are seeing more stress on the roads in their precincts. The additional wear has led county officials to require road use agreements from the drilling companies.
Goliad County presently has about one dozen such agreements in place. The agreements note the weight limit for county roads is 58,460 pounds and specify which ...
