May 13--After seesawing about whether to submit a bid to run the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the University of Texas System is poised to compete with the University of California to run the nuclear weapons facility in New Mexico.

UT regents voted unanimously Thursday for the system to partner with defense contractor Lockheed Martin to pursue the contract.

"We think we will be successful," Chancellor Mark Yudof said. "We bring scientific integrity. We bring scientific expertise."
