Article: Bile may reduce hypertension. (Haifa Technion research)

The toxic effects of certain elements in the bile of patients suffering from liver disease may potentially be the source of a new therapy for other patients suffering from hypertension. This conclusion arises from research carried out by Dr. Arieh Bomzon and his colleagues at the Haifa Technion's Rapoport Faculty of Medicine.

Bile acids are made by the liver and are important in the digestive process, but unless properly restricted by the body, they can damage cells and cause complications such as the formation of gallstones. These problems have prompted R&D into synthetic and less toxic forms of bile acids to treat such disorders.
