May 17--Wall Street big shots buy futures options when they want to guarantee purchases of stocks, pork bellies, grain or oil. Why not let sports fans do the same thing with hot playoff tickets?

That's the idea behind Ticket Reserve, a fledgling Chicago-area company that has deals with the Spurs and seven other NBA teams to offer options on tickets to sold-out playoff games.

Ticket Reserve has dubbed the options "fan forwards." They let fans buy a contract -- usually for around $20 -- that locks in a chance to buy a ticket to a future game.

The "fan forward" pays only for the opportunity, not the ticket itself. ...
