The Clinton Administration's campaign to sell its health care package to Congress and to the country is now under way, beginning with the President's speech to the National Governors' Conference in Tulsa on August 16. As the fight moves to Congress, advocates of a single-payer system must redouble their efforts. My experience on a committee working directly with Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Health Care Reform Task Force has convinced me that the battle for single payer is far from over. The task force's once monolithic support for managed competition is already eroding under the pressure of the public demand for real health care reform.
