May 18--Colorado Springs is seeking to increase its storage in Lake Pueblo through a series of short-term contracts as a "bridge" to its long-term request for more space.
For years the city of 380,000 residents north of Pueblo has requested 10,000 acre-feet -- about 3.3 billion gallons -- of space annually for water primarily exchanged from its purchases of farm water in Crowley County.
Now, Colorado Springs wants to nearly triple that space to meet current storage needs and as a bridge to a 40-year contract connected to its proposed Southern Delivery System, said Brett Gracely, water resource planning supervisor.
