As a boat carpenter, lucky enough to grow up on the waterfront, I have always had a special interest in the boats that were built alike--sister boats as they are known to the seafaring.
Boats are duplicated by builders for several reasons. The most obvious being that a good boat warrants replication and fishermen would request a boat be built "just like that one."
Production efficiency improves tremendously after a builder becomes familiar with a certain design and is able to repeat it. Patterns are used over and over. Problems that arise with the first boats are overcome with those that follow. And all hands on the job become more proficient, resulting ...
