He didn't do it single-handedly, but Charles Nelson helped save St. Paul's Irvine Park, Duluth's Fitger's Brewery and Minneapolis' Milwaukee Depot from destruction. And the retired state historical architect is working on the original Guthrie Theater.
Minnesota's point man for preservation for 32 years, Nelson is getting not one but two honors this week. On Tuesday, he received the St. Paul Heritage Preservation individual award.
