May 19--AUSTIN -- Washington Mutual announced Wednesday that it will locate a new operations center in Texas -- probably in San Antonio.
AP CEO Kerry K. Killinger said Washington Mutual was attracted to Texas' business climate. A $15 million grant from Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Enterprise Fund was the clincher, he said.
The giant Seattle-based bank said the center eventually will employ 4,200 people.
Company officials said as recently as Tuesday that they were considering sites in San Antonio and D-FW.
