Article: Knight Ridder Names John Armstrong Publisher of Contra Costa Newspapers.

George Riggs, who was named today as publisher of the San Jose Mercury News, announced the appointment of John Armstrong as publisher of Contra Costa Newspapers, Inc. He replaces Riggs in that post.

Armstrong, 61, has been editor and vice president of the newspapers since 1995, when he joined the company. He came to Contra Costa from the Escondido Times-Advocate, where he had served as publisher for 17 years. Prior to that, he had worked as a bureau chief for the Associated Press in New Haven, Seattle and Los Angeles.
