Article: Zimmerman's 'Silk' maybe too smooth.(Time Out!)(On theater)

Mary Zimmerman's latest work, "Silk," a stage adaptation of Alessandro Baricco's spare, but beautifully written, novel is a very frustrating work. On the one hand the production is absolutely gorgeous. On the other hand, the production is also cold and emotionally distant, so much so that it's hard not to lose patience with it about two thirds of the way through its brief hour and forty-five minute life.

Let's start with the positives. Scott Bradley's set, which recreates the look and feel of a French mansion and the restrained beauty of a traditional Japanese home, is amazing.
