Law firm Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP is outsourcing on a grand scale: It's using an estimated 180 temporary lawyers in Chicago to work on client AT&T Corp.'s sale to SBC Communications Inc.
The attorneys are grinding away in former Andersen quarters at 33 W. Monroe St., according to one of the lawyers, who asked not to be named. He says he's being paid $35 an hour to review documents on a computer screen.
The lawyers are actually employed by New York-based Hudson Global Resources, a temp agency retained by Sidley. Calls to officials at each firm were not returned.
