I keep this little note on my darkroom door. It inspires me to make better photographs. So often when I walk through a print exhibit I think "That photographer does not deserve an award but the person that made the print certainly does."
Today so many of us use the new 350 horse power cameras that think for us. We no longer have to think about f stops or shutter speeds, but yet we may have thousands of dollars invested in the camera and gadgets we carry to just point and shoot. Then we send the film off, usually to the cheapest place we know and if we don't like our pictures we say "that damn lab did something wrong". Isn't it a shame, the best pictures we get ...
