Henry Fonda, whose film presence evokes images of integrity, tough-jawed sternness and Midwestern sensibility, is the 11th person honored in the Postal Service's Legends of Hollywood series.
The 37-cent commemorative was issued Friday in Hollywood.
Fonda (1905-1982) is often remembered for the characters that he portrayed on stage and screen, including lawyer Clarence Darrow (in his one-man stage show), Lt. Doug Roberts ("Mister Roberts"), juror No. 8 ("Twelve Angry Men"), a cowboy caught up with an ugly mob ("The Ox-Bow Incident") and the president of the United States ("Young Mr. Lincoln").
