Brittany and Robbie Bergquist are a sister and brother from Massachusetts. When they learned that a soldier from their area received a cellphone bill for $7,624 while serving in Iraq, they were shocked. And they were inspired to take action. "Everyone should have the right to call home," Brittany says.
In April 2004, Brittany, 13, and Robbie, 12, used their snack money to open a bank account. With their father's help, they started asking people they knew for donations of money or old cell phones. Recycling centers would give them money for old phones, and Brittany and Robbie could use the money to buy calling cards for soldiers.
