At the very least, the Mir Sada peace convoy that attempted to reach Sarajevo last month (NCR, Aug. 27) generated some questions that the international peace movement must confront.
A few days in the central Bosnian war zone reduced Mir Sada to a rubble of anger, disillusionment and distrust. Even some committed pacifists criticized the project as misguided and naive.
Such criticism of radical peace actions is not new. Remember the controversial Plowshares antinuke actions in the 1980s, for example. But sending a couple thousand people into a war zone notorious for its brutal abandon propels the debate into another dimension. However noble the intent, ...
