New chronic heart failure guidelines issued by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recommends treatment with an aldosterone blocker to improve survival and morbidity in patients with heart failure. Aldosterone blockers are recommended for use with current standard therapy in patients with advanced heart failure (NYHA Class III or IV), or heart failure after heart attack (myocardial infarction, or MI) with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) and signs of heart failure or diabetes.
