THE desert resort of Palm Springs, 120 miles southeast of Los Angeles, has more golf courses per square mile than anywhere else on earth - more than 120. There are 600 tennis courts, more than 38,000 swimming pools and 800 restaurants. It also sells itself as a convention-centre town - "the meetings oasis".

But it offers so much more.
Palm Springs was a hidey hole for a honeymooning Elvis and Priscilla.
