SCOTLAND is in the grip of a major crimewave as the number of violent offences soars to 40 every day.
Nearly two serious crimes have been committed every hour since the start of the year, according to a survey of police forces by the Scottish Daily Mail.
These include murder, attempted murder, culpable homicide, serious assault and firearm possession.
Last night, police warned that an increasingly young age group was responsible for the violence epidemic, fuelled by a growing 'booze and blade' culture among teenage thugs.
