Ever since they were first produced in the mid 1850s, Bates bedspreads have been coveted for their bold and colorful designs and lightweight, durable cotton. The full-sized bedspreads shown above, which date from the 1940s and '50s, no longer have the labels attached, but their colors and fabrics are in good condition despite heavy use. The blankets are noted for their contrasting pastel colors and feature a variety of well-articulated designs such as ribbons, bows, flowers, and geometrics.
