Rather than narrowing its reach, Legg Mason hopes that restructuring its business to become a distribution specialist will broaden its horizons in the long term, says Sarah Godfrey.
More than a year after its metamorphosis from all-rounder LeggMason Investors to distribution specialist Legg Mason Investments, people are getting used to the idea of a fund manager that does not run funds. What the company does instead is to bring the expertise of other managers - all but one of them affiliate companies owned by American parent company Legg Mason - to a British and European audience, through a range of onshore and offshore funds.
