May 25--Verizon Wireless will have to go back to the drawing board in its search for a new cell tower location.
The City Council Monday rejected a request to rezone a small chunk of property near University Avenue to erect a new cell phone tower that the company said would have improved cell phone reliability.
Brad Smith, owner of University Self Storage, had requested a 25-foot by 25-foot piece of his property be rezoned to allow for the cell phone tower. The property is located off of Melrose Drive, just north of University Avenue and behind Advanced Auto Parts.
