It's just a fact of life. Before you see butterflies you have to put up with a lot of caterpillars. The butterfly wasn't always a thing of beauty. It started out as an ugly little wormlike thing relying on the nutrients it ate while a youngster to make its wings. The process that magically turns a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly is called metamorphosis.
