The key to being a successful heptathlete is to have a short memory.
"One of the first things my coach told me," said St. Mary's Ashley Dingels, who set the MIAC record in the heptathlon earlier this month, "was, if you do bad [in an event] you have to forget about it and move on. Even if you do good, you have to forget about it and move on.
"In between events you have 30 minutes. I give myself five minutes to think about that event and then I start thinking about the next event."
On May 6, the senior won the MIAC heptathlon with 4,668 points. The total - the second-best in NCAA Division III this ...
