The Japanese market for nutritional supplements has been growing steadily for the last 10 years, despite the overall economic downturn in the country, according to a new report from Paul Yamaguchi & Associates.

In 1994, the market was worth around $5.0 billion and 10 years later it has doubled to $11.1 billion, an average growth of 11% per year. In 2001, the market expanded 22%, its largest single year growth to date. In 2002-3, this slowed to just over a 5% increase but, in 2004, the sector bounced back to double-digit growth, the report notes.
