May 26--When Mary Elizabeth Semple died in July 1990, she left behind few details about how she had spent her 101 years.

Her obituary in The Virginian-Pilot was only four sentences long and told readers little more than that the retired seamstress never married, hailed from New York and held Protestant beliefs. But for the children who receive medical care at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, thanks to a $54,713 fund she created through her estate, Semple continues to have a lasting effect on their lives.
