A video in itself used to be an attraction. A video showing camp would help make the sale as long as the picture was clear. But the novelty is wearing off. Today, families receive dozens of camp marketing videos. Families complain that most the vides look alike. Camp directors, in the meantime, scratch their heads and contemplate a return to the days of slide shows and 16-millimeter film.
However, we should not blame the messenger. Video is just a medium, and the medium is not the problem. When a camp produces a disappointing brochure, one never hears an attack on the medium of paper. We realize that paper is here to stay.
