Who would have thought a big, green trash bin would have travelers scrambling for their cameras? But there we were, hurrying to the upper deck of the working coastal vessel Uchuck - somewhere on the outer channels of Vancouver Island - to photograph an empty garbage container being hoisted from the ship's hold onto a logging camp dock.
Nothing fascinates like reality. And on a two-day voyage aboard the Uchuck - from the town of Gold River, then west along Esperanza Inlet, through Nootka Sound, and up the outer coast to Kyuquot - we watched rapt as the five-man crew went about its work of delivering supplies ...
