The modern 1911 has evolved to a point where it's hard to improve, but Ed Brown found a way. The "Bobtail" mainspring housing and backstrap on his carry pistols is just one of those features you have to use to fully appreciate. Unlike other features such as a beavertail grip safety, good trigger and excellent sights, the Bobtail can be appreciated even when the gun isn't being shot. It provides a comfortable shooting grip, but more importantly, it makes the gun far more comfortable to carry.
