Kazakhstan expects to harvest 13.0 million tonnes of grain (clean weight) in 2005, up from last year's 12.4mt, a senior agriculture ministry official told Reuters this week.

"As for our grain exports, our potential remains the same--some 5mt--for this calendar year," the official said.

The official said this year's crop would be average, as April had been too dry in the main northern grain area.

"There is not enough moisture in the soil in the north that is why for the time being we are sticking to this modest, pretty average (crop) forecast," he said.
