A top EU judge has endorsed Greece's case to have 'Feta' cheese protected from foreign imitations.
In a legal recommendation on Tuesday, Advocate General Ruiz Jarabo of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) said cheese producers in Germany and Denmark--who had mounted a legal challenge--had no claim to the traditional name.
"The name 'feta' is not generic, but meets the requirements to be regarded as a traditional name, which can be assimilated to a designation of origin, deserving of protection throughout Community territory," said a statement from the ECJ.
