The American College of Sports Medicine (2000) recently highlighted the importance of strength training, along with aerobic and flexibility exercises, as key elements to a "well-rounded training program" for healthy adults. Interestingly, gender differences were not highlighted as a possible moderating factor for deriving benefits from strength training, suggesting that both men and women should participate in strength training.
