When Masao Nakamura took over as CEO and president of NTT DoCoMo in May 2004 there was a change of tack. Gone was Keiji Tachikawa's policy of buying minority equity stakes in overseas players to further DoCoMo's aim of becoming a global technology leader. Instead, the focus would shift to the domestic market and Asia. It is ironic that since then i-mode overseas has gone from strength to strength. In Asia Telstra's i-mode campaign kicked off in earnest at the beginning of March, and recently Singapore's StarHub, snapping at the heels of M1, has hitched its colors to the i-mode mast.
