After decades of lagging behind other cities in state-of-the-art crime-scene investigations, the Boston Police Department is at last creating a special unit that will respond to murders and other major crimes with "CSI"-like intensity.
Currently, homicide unit or district detectives take on the bulk of evidence collection at the scenes of murders and rapes, delaying the other investigative aspects of a case during its crucial early hours.
