May 29--The facts and figures emerging from Thursday's State of the Region address are both startling and disturbing.
In a nutshell, the 16-county area known as Northeast Mississippi isn't as well off as we might have believed. However, we do have opportunities to improve our situation. We just have to stop talking and start acting.
For years, we have read, heard and been told that this area is leading the way in growth. After all, the "Tupelo Story" is well known and professed across the country. Clearly, Tupelo is the jewel in the crown.
But upon closer inspection, that crown has a few tarnishes.
