TOKYO, May 31 Asia Pulse - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (TSE:6752), Hitachi Ltd. (TSE:6501) and Pioneer Corp. (TSE:6773) plan to launch as early as the latter half of 2005 plasma television sets that fully support the high-definition image quality standard of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
Matsushita, the maker of Panasonic brand products, plans to put on the market within the year a 65-inch high-definition plasma TV and follow it up with smaller models. It hopes that the high-definition models will enable it to tap growing demand for such products stemming from the expanding lineup of high-definition video software.
