Employers can do a better job of promoting their employee assistance programs.
While most companies have employee assistance programs, nearly 20% of workers don't know if their companies offer them, according to a recent survey by the Hazelden Foundation, which provides drug and alcohol addiction treatments.
Employers are missing an opportunity to save on health costs by downplaying their EAP offerings, notes Tom Galligan, chief market development officer at Hazelden. EAPs help companies integrate their wellness and disease management programs to create a comprehensive approach to lowering health care costs, he notes.
