Introduction

Multicellular organisms have evolved complex intercellular signaling pathways to coordinate the activities of individual cells. Cytokines are extracellular signaling molecules that transduce their signals across cellular membranes by activating transmembrane receptors, such as Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs).
