Although Anna Seghers was commonly recognized as the most important novelist and storyteller among the older generation of writers in the German Democratic Republic, little critical attention has been given to the specific impact of her works upon those of younger authors. One minor exception to that situation is the cursory and unsatisfying treatment of the relationship between Seghers and Christa Wolf.
