Dear Editor: Last weekend we were helpers at the Mad City Marathon; it was a glorious day, perfect running weather, and as we handed out cups of water and cheered on the racers, we enjoyed it all immensely.
Yet we did notice one striking distinction. As the lead male marathoner came through the water station at mile 25, flashing lights, motorcycles and bicycles encircled him, but several minutes later, the lead female marathoner had only two bicycle escorts. The bells and whistles and light show were in one place only.
