NEW YORK -- J. Crew is sharpening its focus on footwear.
As an increasing number of apparel retailers vie for a larger piece of the shoe business, the New York-based specialty retailer is finding success with high-end, fashion-forward shoe offerings.
"If you look at what our shoe business was even a year ago, it was an add-on," Jenna Lyons, J. Crew's SVP of women's design, told Footwear News in an exclusive interview. "This spring, it's definitely been more of a destination. We've been really shocked as to what's happened. People are coming in to buy a specific shoe, and they're not looking at the apparel."
