Nancy Larraine Hoffmann has found a way to take 13 high school students on a civil rights tour of the South next week without the state money that fueled the annual trip in previous years.
The former state senator has started a nonprofit organization called Senator Hoffmann's Civil Rights Connection.
She made a public plea Thursday for private donations to make sure the students don't have to eat peanut butter sandwiches every day on the "journey of their lifetime," which begins Sunday.
