HOUSTON -- Mexico's state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announced the discovery of light oil at a deep exploration well in the Campeche Sound.
Initial tests at the well, Sinan 101-A, flowed at the rate of 1,498 b/d of 41 degree API gravity oil and 5 MMcfd of gas from Jurassic carbonates between 17,963 feet and 17,986 feet. The well is located in the Gulf of Campeche 27 miles north of the town of Frontera in Tabasco State.
It took almost a year to drill the 18,282 foot discovery. The well was begun on Jan. 1 and reached total depth this month.
