Jun. 6--Three bridges now span the Cooper River between Mount Pleasant and Charleston. One looks good, two don't.
The aging Grace and Pearman bridges are riddled with rust spots, their layers of paint long ago weathered away by saltwater mist and heat from the sun.
The new $632 million Cooper River bridge stands in sharp contrast. Its paint is fresh, its cables shiny and white.
How long the new bridge stays in this shape remains to be seen.
When ownership of the bridge changes hands between the contractor and the state in a matter of weeks, the bridge will join an already backlogged maintenance ...
