Article: Portal preview - Europe stands together. The European Library has now entered its final phase of beta testing, with the official launch of the revised site set for next month. Tracey Caldwell took an initial look at the new portal to find out what the site will have to offer.

The European Library provides unparalleled access to many of the cultural treasures of the EU national libraries. Its primary aim is to offer information about library collections and treasures, alongside a free search facility that links to digital objects - some free, some priced. Here we take a first look inside The European Library (TEL) portal (www.theeuropeanlibrary.org).
The website was born of an EU project to test the browser and portal technology used here. Its innovative use of a combination of technologies has made membership of The European Library more appealing, because the technology is relatively straightforward and the costs are more affordable. ...
