An emerging standard for high-end accounting software is making life easier for software users and consultants.
The standard is Btrieve, a Novell product called a file handler, which is essentially a language which establishes how files are structured and how data is accessed on local area networks running Novell's NetWare operating system.
In the last three months, two manufacturers of integrated accounting packages, Real-World and State of the Art have announced they are moving to Btrieve. One of the few hold outs among major accounting vendors, Solomon, will probably move to Btrieve in the next few months.
