A Chicago piano blues patriarch for more than five decades, Sunnyland Slim's music has rarely been presented as well as on this combination interview/performance project. Recorded on producer Bob West's Seattle houseboat in 1976, Slim loquaciously relates a series of fascinating remembrances (name-dropping legends like Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Robert Johnson and Blind Lemon Jefferson along the way) in between playing always imaginative, strong left-handed barrelhouse piano, alternately sprightly and moody, and singing loud and clear, like his life depended on it.
