With an assortment of cast components of all shapes, sizes and metals, AFS honored nine metalcasting firms and OEMs in the AFS Marketing Div./Engineered Casting Solutions 2005 Casting Competition. These companies were recognized at CastExpo '05 on April 19 in St. Louis.
ME Global (Elecmetal), Duluth, Minn., was awarded Casting of the Year honors for its 2,200-lb. (998-kg) steel tread belt shoe component for the NASA crawler transporters. The casting, which was produced through the V-process casting method, is 90 in. (2.3 m) long, 25 in. (0.6 m) wide and 16.5 in. (0.4 m) tall.
