Bless its soul. The National Mastitis Council (NMC) is once again proposing that the U.S. limit on somatic cells be lowered to 400,000 for Grade A milk. The proposed effective date: 2012.
This is the fifth time in the past six bienniums that NMC has put forth such a proposal. It has been rejected by the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipment (NCIMS) delegates four times, barely getting a hearing because of the political maneuvering of the National Milk Producers Federation.
